Medical Grade Skincare; Is it worth it?

Hi! Just a quick introduction; I’m Amber, the Business Manager at Yonick Plastic Surgery. I first came to Yonick Plastic Surgery as a client about a year ago and then, in January, joined the team. I am an accountant by schooling but I am also a self-proclaimed product junkie. I would always be drawn into products by their marketing and pick up “this product” for acne and “that product” for wrinkles because it’s supposed to be the “latest and greatest”. I was constantly searching for the best products but everything was falling short because, the truth was, I didn’t know what my skin needed. Luckily, a year ago, I came into the office for a free skin care consultation. It was truly eye opening. Although I am still tweaking my skin care regimen, I am no longer wasting money purchasing products that do nothing for my skin and take up space under my sink.

Like most people, I wondered, what is the difference between Medical Grade skincare and Over-the-Counter (OTC), really? I have been doing some research and OTC is any product that you buy at the grocery store, department store, or even the spa. They are products that are designed to enhance your skin...but not correct it. OTC products generally come with a cheaper price tag but that doesn’t mean you are getting a deal. Instead you are getting a very small amount of the active ingredients and a bunch of water and fillers; these products just sit on the surface of your skin. Another thing to consider with OTC skincare is the elusive wording used for their products. For example, instead of saying “reduces wrinkles”, they say, “reduces the appearance of wrinkles.” This is because they are not changing the structure or function of the skin.

Medical/Pharmaceutical grade gives you the highest concentration of active ingredients in order to change your skin at a cellular level. These products are sold in doctor’s offices and medical spas and are FDA regulated; backed by scientific studies. The higher concentrations of active ingredients are designed to penetrate the outer layer of skin to reduce wrinkles and brown spots, increase hydration and much more. Companies that create these products invest towards clinical research to ensure their technology is proven to be effective and they are constantly developing the most efficient way to deliver their products to you.

Interested to see what prescription-grade skincare can do for you? I highly suggest a consultation. During this consultation a medical professional will examine and diagnose  your skin care needs and create a customized plan to help you achieve your goals. This step has been key for me. Our Nurse Practitioner, Karen, even continues to meet with me to discuss how my skin is responding to the skincare and adjust my regimen accordingly. I honestly have never been happier with my skin (this is a big thing for me as I am approaching the big 4-0)! It looks and feels healthy and is functioning better than ever!

Call our office today to set up a free skincare consultation and, during the month of September, when you mention you read our blog, you will be entered for a free ZO Getting Skin Ready kit!

SUNSCREEN!!

Hi! My name is Karen and I’m a sunscreen buff. Geek, if you will. This sunscreen blog
is complete with all the questions I’ve been asked plus a little more info to really hit it
home. Are you as excited as I am?! Let’s go!

What is the biggest bang for your buck when we are talking about anti-aging?

My answer every time will be to purchase a great sunscreen. Not only does it help with
protecting you from skin cancer but it also helps your skin from aging prematurely.
Easier said than done, right? You walk down any store isle and it can be extremely over-
whelming with all of the options. So, let’s go over the important facts you need to know
when selecting the right sun protection for you and your family.
The first descriptor you need to look for on any sunscreen container is “broad spectrum”.
Sunlight actually has two types of harmful rays, which are UVA and UVB. Overexposure to
either one can put you at risk for skin cancer. UVA rays are the culprit for giving us
premature aging to our skin, causing wrinkles and age spots. UVB rays are the cause of
sunburns. It is important to note that while UVB rays are blocked by window glass, UVA
rays are not. So keep in mind that when you are driving in your car, you may not be
getting a sunburn but, you better believe the UVA rays are still getting to you! When you
choose a broad spectrum sunscreen you are being protected from both UVA and UVB
rays.
I get the question on a daily basis of “who needs sunscreen?” and the answer is very
straightforward - everyone over 6 months of age (under 6 months old should avoid sun).
I also have had many clients tell me that they tan nicely and don’t get burned so, are they
off the hook for worrying about the sun? No way! Anyone can get skin cancer regardless
of skin type, race, gender or age. Sunscreen is a must to keep you safe and your skin healthy.

What does SPF even mean?

SPF = Sun Protection Factor. It is a rating for sunscreens and other cosmetic products
containing sunscreen. In theory, the SPF number indicates how long you can stay in the
sun before your skin reddens. SPF is only used to rate a sunscreen’s ability to protect
against UVB rays.

Is a high number SPF better than a low numbered one?
The recommendation is to use a sunscreen that has SPF of at least 30, which will block
93% of the sun’s UVB rays. Higher number SPFs block slightly more of the sun’s UVB but
no sunscreen can block 100%. It is important to note that high number SPFs last the same
amount of time as low number SPFs. A high number SPF does not allow you to spend
additional time outdoors without reapplication. Sunscreens should be reapplied every
2 hours even on cloudy days, after swimming or sweating.
What types of sunscreens are there?
Chemical and mineral sunscreens are the two options available.  There is, and always has
been, a lot of debate if chemical or mineral sunscreens are better and/or have different
risks. The current research shows the FDA is stating chemical and/or mineral sunscreens
are safe and protect against skin cancers.
The chemical sunscreens work like a sponge and absorb the sun’s rays. They contain one or
more of the following active ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene,
momosalate and octinoxate. These formulations may be easier to rub into the skin without
leaving a white residue. Mineral sunscreens work like a shield, sitting on the surface of your
skin and deflecting the sun’s rays. They contain the active ingredients zinc oxide and/or
titanium dioxide. This may be a better choice for those with sensitive skin.
Who regulates sunscreen and are they safe?
Sunscreen products are regulated as over the counter drugs by the US Food and Drug
Administration. The FDA has several safety and effectiveness regulations in place that
govern the manufacture and marketing of all sunscreen products, including safety data on
its ingredients.
Scientific evidence supports the benefits of using sunscreen to minimize short-term and
long-term damage to the skin from the sun’s rays. Claims that sunscreen ingredients are
toxic and/or a hazard to human health have not been proven.
The FDA continues to evaluate spray sunscreens for safety and effectiveness on your skin.
There is so much variability on the application of the sprays since it is difficult to know if you
used enough to cover all the exposed areas. When using a spray, make sure to spray an
adequate amount and make sure to rub it in.
Is your sunscreen still effective?
FDA requires all sunscreens to retain their original strength for at least 3 years, so make sure
to check the expiration date if listed on the container; if it has expired, throw it out.
If you buy a sunscreen that doesn’t have an expiration date, write the date you bought the
sunscreen on the bottle; that way you will have a baseline of when to throw it out. However,
if any sunscreen becomes discolored or runny from when you purchased it, it is time to buy
yourself a new bottle.
Review of what to look for when buying a sunscreen:
Broad Spectrum
SPF 30 or above
Reapply every 2 hours
A sunscreen that covers what is listed above will assist to protect your skin from early signs
of aging, sunburn and skin cancer. Sunscreen is quite the powerhouse but, it cannot stand
alone to reduce your exposure to skin cancer, so here are a few other things you can do to
protect yourself.

Protective clothing
First, let’s start with a broad brimmed hat! A broad brimmed hat will cover your face, neck
and, of course, don’t forget the tips of your ears! This hat needs to be occlusive or have a
lining, so say goodbye to your straw hat.  And baseball hats have a nice brim to cover your
face but leave too many other areas exposed.
Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) is a rating that is generally used in clothing that will
protect you from the sun. This will measure the amount of UVA and UVB radiation that
penetrates the fabric and reaches the skin. The higher the number is better when it comes
to UVP clothing. It is a great time to start looking for swimsuits, dresses, hats and shirts.
These are becoming very popular, which means they have many varieties and styles to
choose from. I came across a UVP long sleeve shirt that has thumb holes so not only is my
upper body fully protected but, also the tops of my hands that are so easily forgotten to
protect. I wore this type of shirt all week on a cruise and it kept me protected from the sun,
cool on the beach, and it was easy to swim in. Clearly, I am a big fan! Also, most of our
young daughter’s swim gear we purchase is UVP clothing, as it is a time saver for putting
sunscreen all over her body. Minutes count when they are excited and whining to get into
that pool!
And don’t forget about your lips! Apply a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with
SPF of 30 or higher and reapply at least every 2 hours, or as needed.

Avoiding the sun
Are you using sunscreen all year round? I hope your answer is yes because the sun emits
these harmful UV rays year-round; it does not take vacation days. Even on cloudy days,
up to 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate your skin. Did you know that water,
sand, and even snow reflect the damaging rays of the sun, which can increase your chance
of sunburn? So, use good judgement and protect yourself whether you are skiing in the
summer or the winter! Seek shade whenever possible and don’t forget the sun’s rays are
strongest between 10am and 2pm so be extra diligent with sun protection during those
times.
PLEASE, please, please avoid tanning beds and booths. Ultraviolet light from the sun AND
tanning units cause skin cancer and wrinkling. The United States Department of Health
and Human Services and the World Health Organization’s International Agency of
Research on Cancer have declared UV radiations from the sun and tanning beds are a
known carcinogen, which means this is a cancer-causing substance.  If you love the look of
your skin being tan, seek out self-tanning products and then wear your sunscreen over that.
There are also some incredible mineral makeup tricks you can do to have a beautiful
bronzed look without putting your skin at risk.
We have multiple mineral sunscreens here at Yonick Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Center
that will keep you protected from the UV rays and are great for sports, water and everyday
wear. You must find the sunscreen that your skin loves. For example, I use a few different
sunscreens that feel best for my various activities. My favorites are:
ZO Skin Health Sunscreen + Primer. I use it as the last step in my morning facial regimen.
This is a broad spectrum mineral sunscreen with SPF 30. The benefit is the built-in primer
so I can just bypass that step when applying makeup. It also has a sheer matte finish and
a slight tint so, if I decide not to put makeup on, it gives me a little coverage. I can also
reapply this over my makeup when it is time to and it won’t smudge!
How amazing is that?!
Yonick Antioxidant Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 50 is my go-to for my weekend sunscreen.
This is also a broad spectrum mineral sunscreen that is fast absorbing, oil and paraben
free and can work as a makeup primer. Most of the staff in our office, and a lot of our
clients, prefer this one as their daily sunscreen use but, my skin chooses something
different. Your skin is the boss so listen to it!
I strongly suggest to come into the office and try on a few to see which one is right for
you! When you find the sunscreen that doesn’t make your face/body feel oily or greasy,
you will love putting it on.

Armed with all this sunscreen knowledge, have a blast this summer and, as always,
keep your skin protected! If you have any additional questions about sunscreen or skin
care, please call our office for a free consultation.

Before and After Pictures

When you begin research for a board-certified plastic surgeon, you will most likely browse the before and after pictures looking for a body type similar to yours; real and untouched. These pictures are extremely helpful by giving potential clients visual and realistic expectations when they are thinking about cosmetic surgery. While you are choosing a plastic surgeon for cosmetic surgery or any type of cosmetic procedure (such as laser or filler), it is important to see the quality approach, technical skills, and professionalism that are shown through those pictures. Dr. Yonick and his clinical staff take tremendous pride in helping our clients achieve results expertly tailored to each individual.

As we live in a smaller community where everybody knows a friend of a friend, it can be scary to give your permission to post before and after pictures. “What if my friends see me?”, “I don’t want anyone to know I had plastic surgery.”, “Where is this going to be posted?”…these are just some of the questions and comments we frequently hear. To help ease your mind, let us walk you through our process of taking and posting pictures.

First, we will take your pictures in our office in a comfortable and private room. These will include before, after your surgery/procedure and during recovery. We then take our time to look at the pictures we captured correct/erase identifying marks like a birthmark or tattoo that would cause someone to recognize you. A lot of procedures Dr. Yonick performs consist of areas of the body that do not include your face being in the picture at all! Before and after pictures are never posted with your name but, will have an age range, height, and weight so potential clients can try to find someone that may share some of their same body traits. If you are having a procedure on your face, we can also minimize the risk of others recognizing you by covering your eyes or only using a portion of your face, such as a before and after of your cheek. These pictures are always very exciting to see afterwards!

We understand that plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures continue to carry a stigma but we would love to be at the forefront of “Stopping The Stigma”. So, when we ask you for permission to post your before and after pictures on our website, or to include them in a book in our office for clients to view, please think twice before you say no. Think of how helpful it was to have before and after pictures for you to view prior to your procedure. Your picture could help someone take the first step towards embracing their aesthetic journey.

Take a look at just one of our clients that have achieved amazing results!

ZO 3 Step Chemical Peel

Ashlee, RN here:

Acid. It sounds a little scary—especially when it comes to applying it to your face in hopes of anti-aging results. Still, as crazy as it may sound, when you pair acid with Retinol, your skin can yield amazing results. Your epidermis layer of your skin actually dies (which don’t worry, is supposed to happen), and it allows for growth of new, beautiful, healthy looking skin!

When embarking on your own skin health journey, you’re bound to explore the various possibilities in achieving facial rejuvenation. The role we take on as a practice is identifying problem areas that are specific to each client and determining which treatments will provide the best results. We keep the lines of communication open to make sure your voice is heard and your personal needs are met. So—for treatments that sound intimidating (like chemical peels), we want to take the time to answer all of your questions and provide you with the facts.

Our ZO 3 step peel is one of the chemical peels we offer at Yonick Plastic Surgery. It’s a spectacular treatment and can provide significant results in just one application. It is a great option for those struggling with skin discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles, acne, and poor texture. The service is performed in office by a ZO trained RN, NP, or MD, only takes about a half an hour from start to finish, and by day 5 your skin will look amazing! It’s a peel you can repeat every 3-5 weeks for optimal results. AND it is as easy as three steps.

Step 1: The application of 3 acids: Salicylic, lactic, and TCA (trichloroacetic acid). The goal of this step is to exfoliate (the peeling) of the epidermis, which will occur on days 2-5.

Step 2: We will then apply a 6% Retinol Creme. Retinol (vitamin A) is the mack daddy of anti-aging ingredients. This step is SO important and likely the reason for yielding those amazing results I mentioned earlier. Applying this immediately after the superficial peel allows the retinol to penetrate to the deeper parts of your skin where it is needed to stimulate your cells to turn over. This process will result in a boost of collagen for reduction in the appearance of wrinkles, improvement of irregular pigmentation and firming, and provides skin protection with powerful antioxidants. In terms of facial rejuvenation, this is truly a valuable step in transforming any problematic skin.

Step 3: Say hi to your stage of relief. Revitatrol. This topical is a recovery cream applied after the retinol has been introduced. For your newly exfoliated skin, this will be a delightful relief for you after steps 1 and 2. This Revitatrol will be your friend in the coming days to relieve you of the expected effects of this peel (redness, dryness, peeling, etc.). And yes, it’s yours for the keeping!

While parts of this process might sound intimidating, skin health depends on good clinical treatment to kick start cellular renewal. If you’re looking for big picture results in a short amount of time, our 3 step peel may be a great option for you! If it isn’t a peel, we’ll get you in your sweet spot and before you know it, you’ll be looking back on your pre-treated self, wondering why you didn’t start sooner.

Why cost shouldn't be the first question you ask...

Have you entertained the idea of getting cosmetic surgery? Or perhaps a laser resurfacing procedure? It is always a good idea to do your research and ask lots of questions but, “how much will this cost”, is not one of them that can easily be answered over the phone. Dr. Yonick believes that giving price quotes without a proper consultation can be a tremendous disservice for both the client and the practice. When you call our office, we will invite you to schedule a free consultation instead of giving a ballpark number—and there are a few reasons why.

First, there is only one YOU! Every single person has their own unique body, shape, and size. Giving you an approximate figure won’t be beneficial if we don’t know the details. For instance, if you were to call for pricing on a mommy makeover, the cost is going to vary significantly depending on your personal goals and expectations. One person may need a breast augmentation and a mini tummy tuck without liposuction, whereas another mommy makeover may need a breast lift and full tummy tuck with liposuction. Without a consultation to help focus on what your target areas are and what your body needs, a price quote is literally just numbers.

Second, cosmetic surgery isn’t cheap, and it is even more expensive if it doesn’t meet your expectations the first time. Instead of the price, we suggest your research consists of questions that are going to benefit your surgical outcome and care. A few questions we recommend asking:
  •  Is the surgeon board certified in plastic surgery?
  •  Will I be meeting with the surgeon during my cosmetic consultation?
  •  I am interested in a laser procedure, is your laser equipped with the latest technology?
  •  Who does your laser treatments, and what type of training have they had?
  •  Do you provide cosmetic surgery insurance?
  •  Will I have any additional costs associated after my surgery/procedure?
This list of questions is better suited to get you into an office that holds you and your outcome to a higher standard.

At first glance, we may not be the “cheapest price in town” but, when looking for expertise we  are the leaders in education, utilize top equipment, and provide the greatest clinical results. So, while we will not give you a price over the phone, when you come into our office for your free consultation you will receive a clinical evaluation focused around YOU. It will center on YOUR specific goals, and include an exact price quote including surgeon fees, facility, and anesthesia costs. These prices are all inclusive. We will give you all the tools to make an informed decision no matter what you decide.

We know this whole process can be daunting but, don’t worry…we will be with you every step of the way.

Does Certification Matter?

Hi, Dr. David Yonick here-
There are many different “boards” that are available to say a provider is “certified.” The most recent example is the state of California banning the American Board of Cosmetic Surgeon from stating they are “board certified.” This is one of clearest stances taken by a state medical board proving that certification does matter. It is a line that is voiced often by various medical specialties and it is, in fact, true—certification DOES matter.

But what does it really mean to be certified? In the case of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS), let’s take a closer look. There has been a lot of backlash from the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) regarding this subject. If you do a little digging into their website, and the board’s offerings, it becomes clearer what is truly going on. They offer opportunities to spend a weekend course learning cosmetic treatments like Botox or fillers, which becomes a common pathway for ER, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, etc to enter into the world of cosmetics.

As a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon (American Board of Plastic Surgery) my requirements were much more than a weekend course worth of training. In plastic surgery, there are currently two pathways to obtain “eligibility” for the board examination process. As a medical student one can match directly into a 6 year plastic surgery training program. Or, as a medical student, one can complete a separate training program in general surgery (5 yrs), ENT (5yrs), or Urology (6yrs) to become eligible to apply to a 3 year plastic surgery training program.
This means I had to complete 5 years of general surgery (encompassing 2000 operations) followed by 3 years of plastic surgery (encompassing 3000 operations) in order to be able to sit for both American Board of Surgery (ABS) and American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) examination processes. Given this information, I strongly defend the statement that “certification matters” and the ability to advertise that one is “board certified” is also significant. As a practicing board certified plastic surgeon, I have achieved the highest level of standard for safe, ethical, and efficacious practice of plastic surgery.

When considering plastic surgery, it is very important to weigh your options and do your homework on the office and the doctor. This is especially the case when contemplating treatments like injectables, Botox, chemical peels, fillers, or laser treatments at boutiques or medical spas. At Yonick Plastic Surgery, we strongly recommend getting the name of the medical director, looking up their credentials, finding out whether they are board certified (and by which board), and asking if he/she performs or supervises any of the treatments. We want to ensure our patents have a safe, positive experience and achieve the results they are looking for— and at Yonick Plastic Surgery, we believe that starts with the right certification.

Coolsculpting

Are you hoping to achieve your best body yet? Yonick Plastic Surgery is here to help you reach your personal goals AND get you feeling great about how you look!

The Coolsculpting, fat-freezing, procedure is the only FDA-cleared non-surgical fat-reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate the stubborn fat that you can't with diet and exercise.
How it works:
The Coolsculpting procedure safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystalized (frozen), then die off. Over time your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.

What to expect:
During your first visit, you will meet with a Coolsculpting expert and receive a one on one consultation. During the consultation, our expert will take the time to discuss a holistic approach to your goals for reshaping your body. Together, we'll look at your body from different angles, then focus on specific areas where you want to eliminate fat.

Your treatment day:
No surgery AND little to no downtime.
During your treatment, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the targeted area. The Coolsculpting applicator will then deliver controlled cooling to the targeted fat. During your procedure, feel free to read, check your email, or even nap!

How "cool" is the Coolsculpting procedure:
As the name suggests, the Coolsculpting procedure can be a little chilly. Controlled cooling is delivered via an applicator to freeze the targeted fat. Though you may feel cold initially, this feeling usually subsides within 5-10 minutes as the area numbs. Because most applicators use a vacuum to draw fatty tissue into the applicator cup, you may also feel some slight pulling, tugging and/or mild pinching.

Is there downtime:
The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, which makes returning to normal activities after, typically an easy process. Patients often even return to work immediately following a treatment.

Are there any side effects:
Following the procedure, typical side effects may include: temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, and/or skin sensitivity. Sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental area treatment has also been reported. These effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks. Though rare, some additional side effects may occur.

What is the difference between losing weight vs. losing fat:
The number of fat cells in our bodies typically become a fixed number sometime in our teenage years. Losing or gaining weight generally does not increase or decrease the number of fat cells, instead it changes the size of fat cells. After dieting and weight loss, fat cells get smaller but the number of fat cells stays the same. When weight is gained, fat cells get bigger.

The Coolsculpting, fat freezing procedure actually reduces the number of fat cells in treated areas by about 20-25%. These fat cells are naturally processed and eliminated so they won’t’ migrate to another area of your body.

Am I a good candidate for Coolsculpting:
Coolsculpting is designed for those who have unwanted fat in targeted areas. Unlike weight loss surgery (like gastric bypass), the CoolSculpting procedure is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese. The ideal candidates for Coolsculpting are those who have noticeable bulges in certain areas they would like to get rid of. The fact that it is non-surgical makes it a great alternative to liposuction.

When will I see results:
You may see changes as quickly as 3 weeks after your treatment, but will experience the most drastic results after 2 months. Your body continue to flush out fat cells for up to 4-6 months after treatment.
How much does Coolsculpting cost:
The cost depends on the areas of concern, the number of treatments needed, and your goals. Most patients opt to receive treatments in multiple body areas in order to achieve their desired results. The cost typically ranges between $2000-4000 per personalized treatment plan; depending on the number of areas treated.

Create a customized treatment plan that is tailored to your body, your goals, and your budget. At Yonick Plastic Surgery, we also accept Care Credit so you don’t have to wait for your treatment. Book your consultation today. We can't wait to help you achieve your goals for 2019!

SkinTyte Laser Treatment

Are you worried about resembling your Thanksgiving turkey this November? Fear not- Yonick has you covered! Treat your "turkey neck" to a SkinTyte treatment and you will enter winter looking like a spring chicken.

SkinTyte is the newest Sciton laser technology to tighten and firm without downtime, and Yonick was the first in the Great Lakes Bay Area to offer this exciting treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Skin Tightening Laser Treatment:

How does the Sciton Skin Tyte system tighten my skin?
  • The Sciton SkinTyte system delivers infrared light deep into the dermis.
  • The heat from the special light causes the collagen and elastic fibers to shrink and tighten (similar to shrinking a wool sweater in the dryer)
  • This stimulates the deeper tissues, which leads to remodeling of the collagen. The
remodeled collagen helps to fill in wrinkles and restore elasticity to sagging skin.
  • The powerful cooling system then maintains the outer surface of the skin at cool
temperatures before, during, and after each pulse. This makes treatment comfortable
    and safe with no downtime.
What areas of skin can I use Skin Tyte to improve the firmness?
  • The SkinTyte technology can be applied anywhere on loose skin, from your face to your legs.
  • The areas on the face and neck area, especially the:
    • Cheeks
    •  Jowls
    • Nasolabial folds
BEFORE:

 AFTER:

  • SkinTyte laser treatment can also help tighten and improve the appearance of loose skin on the:
    •  Arms
    • Bra Fat
    • Breasts
    • Abdomen
    • Flanks
    • Inner Thighs
    • Outer Thighs
    • Buttocks
    • Banana Roll
    • Knees
  • Is Skin Tyte treatments safe? And are there any side effects?
    • The Sciton SkinTyte system technology is FDA-approved and documented to be safer and more comfortable than the bulk heating approach of other systems because it is highly selective and more advanced in targeting collagen and elastic fibers in your loose
      skin.
    • Patients may experience mild redness in the treated area immediately after treatment.
This will last only a short time.
    • Since the SkinTyte procedure is noninvasive, you can resume your normal activities
      immediately following treatment.
  • Will the treatment be painful?
    • The Skin Tyte treatment is not painful and most describe as “very relaxing”.
  • How many skin tightening treatments will I need before I see results?
    • The SkinTyte system is the most advanced tissue tightening device available on the market today. A tightening effect will be visible immediately and skin will continue to firm throughout the month.
    • A series of three to five treatments at four to six week intervals will deliver the most noticeable results of smoother, tighter skin.
So, what are you waiting for? Treat yourself this holiday season, and call Yonick to book your appointment today!

Bra Day

To many women, breasts are part of what make them feel feminine. So, it makes an already stressful situation if combating breast cancer, even more stressful when you come out of it not feeling like yourself. Many women who have undergone a mastectomy or lumpectomy are unaware of their reconstruction options available to them. Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day is an awareness campaign designed to put an end to the unknown by promoting public education, patient care, and research.

Breast reconstruction often involves multiple procedures performed in stages and can either begin at the time of mastectomy or be delayed until a later date.
The reconstruction generally falls into two categories: implant-based reconstruction or flap reconstruction. Implant reconstruction relies on breast implants to help form a new breast mound, while flap (or autologous) reconstruction uses the patient's own tissue from another part of the body to form a new breast.

There are a few factors that should be taken into consideration when choosing which option is best suited for each individual:
  • Type of mastectomy
  • Cancer Treatments
  • Patient’s body type
A note about symmetry: If only one breast is affected, it alone may be reconstructed. In addition, a breast lift, breast reduction, or breast augmentation may be recommended for the opposite breast to improve symmetry of the size, shape and position of both breasts.

Dr. Yonick is a leader in the community in reconstruction for breast cancer survivors. If you have questions about your options, don't hesitate to contact our office and schedule your personal consultation.
